June 6, 2011 – Movies that contain magic have always been among my top favorites. They contain this air of mystery and enchantment that enthralls me. It makes me want to be a part of that magical world. Alas I know it would be impossible and so at the end of every movie I force myself to return to the “normal world”. But still, despite the fact that I cant very well jump into the movie screen and be part of that world, it does not stop me from enjoying every “magic movie” I watch.
Over the years I have watched quite a few magic movies. And I have decided to compile a magic movies list that I enjoyed the most. So, here it goes.
• The Craft. This is a horror film done by Andrew Fleming. It’s about a teenager, Sarah, who moves into a new town. On her first day of school she is approached by a group of girls all claiming to be witches. They had witnessed her telekinetic powers and wants Sarah to join their group so that they can complete their circle of four. At first everything was fine. But then the three girls eventually turned on Sarah who in turn had to defeat them and bind their powers so they would never be able to hurt anyone again,
• Ella Enchanted. This is a romantic-comedy film that tells of a beautiful maiden named Ella who was given the gift of obedience by her godmother, Lucinda, when she was a child. This gift turned out to be more like a curse as poor Ella had to obey everything anyone ever said to her. Eventually Ella couldn’t bear the burden of her gift anymore so she decided to seek out Lucinda to take away her gift.
• Harry Potter. Harry Potter is a seven part movie that is based on the fantasy novel created by best-selling author J.K Rowling. It tells of the fascinating adventures of a young wizard Harry Potter and his friends as they try to thwart a powerful dark wizard, Lord Voldemort and save the world.
• The Illusionist. This is a movie set in 19th century Vienna. It tells of a master magician who chooses to go after a noblewoman despite the fact that she is supposed to marry the crown prince.
• Magic. This is about a magician who fails miserable causing him to withdraw from the world and disappear. A year later he comes back with a new act together with his dummy which he calls Fats. The new act is a success. And the magician would have been ecstatic with the success he has achieved if not for the fact that he constantly hears his dummy talking to him even when they are off stage.
• The Prestige. This is a story about two rival magicians who try to outdo each other with complex tricks that become more and more dangerous.
• The Man From Beyond. This is about a magician named Harry Houdini who has been frozen in the Arctic ice for over 100 years. After being found he magically manages to survive and proceeds to help his love interest find out who took her father.
Twilight. This story tells of a seventeen-year-old teenager named Isabella Swan who falls for a vampire (Edward Cullen). At first Edward tries to stay away from her in a bid to protect her from himself and his kind but their attraction proved to be too much. In the end they end up getting married and Bella gets transformed into a vampire.
All of these magic movies
have one thing in common, they capture the heart and soul of those that watch them.
